Roomba i3 and i4 models are similar to each other. But their battery capacity, their runtime, and the availability of virtual wall barriers are some of the differences that these models have. Read the article below to learn more about the specifications and differences between them.

Roomba i3/i3+ vs. i4/i4+: Which is better?

The Roomba i4 is the better choice because of the additional accessories that come with it. At an almost similar price, you get an extra HEPA filter and virtual wall barriers than the i3+. Performance-wise, there’s not much difference. But you will get a better battery with longer runtime with the i4+.

What does the ‘+’ indicate?

The key difference between the original models and their ‘+’ models lies in one aspect. The ‘+’ models are equipped with a self-emptying dock, which is not present in the original models. This self-emptying dock allows the vacuums to automatically empty their dustbins into a bag in the docking station.

Roomba i3/i3+ vs. i4/i4+ Comparison

* represents a comparison with the 600 series.

Let’s discuss in detail how the two models are different from one another.

Differences between Roomba i3+ and i4+

These models have literally no difference in design or functionality. They are precisely the same. The only differences between these models are the battery performance and the accessories.

Battery Performance

The battery compartment of Roomba

These robovacs feature a Lithium Ion battery but with different capacities. The i3+’s 1,800 mAh battery gives a runtime of 75 minutes. But the i4 can run for up to 100 minutes with its 2,210 mAh battery. Despite their different battery capacities, both robots take equal amounts of time to charge.

A higher battery capacity of 400 mAh and longer runtime of around 30 minutes make the i4+ the better choice.

Additional Accessories

On purchasing the i3+, you get an extra HEPA filter for free. But the i4 has two additional HEPA filters and a virtual wall barrier. The virtual wall barrier is used to create no-go zones for the vacuum. It will not enter the no-go zone once it’s set.

As the i4 comes with more accessories, we would pick it over the i3+.

Similarities between Roomba i3+ and i4+

Both these models are the same in almost every way you can imagine. They have the same shape, size, weight, and design. Both have the same suction power and give similar cleaning performance.

Both vacuums have smart navigation capabilities. Both are equipped with the same Dirt Detection Technology for detecting heavily dirty spots in your home. The cliff sensors in these robots prevent them from falling down the stairs.

While the i3 and i4 have almost identical designs and functionality, the latter offers additional accessories. It includes an extra HEPA filter and virtual wall barriers. It also has a higher battery capacity, providing a longer runtime than the i3.

Ultimately, despite similar performance between the two models, the i4 is the better choice due to these additional features.
