Roomba e5 vs. i3 Comparison

* Represents a comparison with the Roomba 600 series.

Let’s discuss in detail how the Roomba e5 is different from the Roomba i3.

Price Comparison

iRobot is currently not selling any of these models on its official website. But you can buy them from e-commerce websites like Amazon, eBay, etc. Here, the models you will find are refurbished or new but slightly used.

Talking about the price, you will have to go through several websites to look for the cheapest option. As far as our research goes, both these models are available in pretty much the same price range. Only going through multiple e-commerce websites can get you the best deal.

Roomba e5 vs. i3 design

You can clearly distinguish the Roomba i3 from the Roomba e5. The Roomba i3 comes in a Grey color with a black ring around its circumference. But the Roomba e5 is completely Black in color. Also, the Roomba e5 has a carrying handle in the center, which is absent in the Roomba e3.

Note: An interesting addition to the i3 is that it is compatible with a self-emptying base. It has a hole at the bottom for emptying the dustbin. You can easily upgrade the i3 to i3+ by purchasing the self-emptying Clean base. This feature is not available for the Roomba e5.

Which one of these robots has a better navigation system?

The navigation system of the Roomba e5 is pretty basic. It doesn’t follow a fixed path for cleaning. It usually bumps into obstacles and moves away from them. This method of navigation gets the job done, but it is not as efficient as the Roomba i3’s smart navigation system.

The Roomba i3 first determines what the best path forward will be and then follows it. You will see it cleaning in pretty much straight lines until it covers the entire region. This leads to less random bumping into furniture or other obstacles.

We recommend getting the Roomba i3 for its smart navigation.

Which one gives a better cleaning performance?

If you compare the cleaning performance of Roomba i3 and Roomba e5, you won’t find much of a difference. But when it comes to high-rise carpets, the better suction power of the Roomba i3 comes in handy. Besides that, both models give similar cleaning experiences.

Battery capacity: Roomba e5 vs. i3

Both Roomba i3 and Roomba e5 have lithium-ion batteries with 1800 mAh capacity, which takes around 3 hours to charge. In spite of that, the Roomba e5 has a higher runtime of 90 minutes. The Roomba i3 manages to clean only for 75 minutes.

But the Roomba i3 has the recharge and resume feature. With this feature, when the Roomba i3 is low on power, it automatically heads to the docking station to recharge. Once it’s completely charged, it heads back to the position where it last stopped cleaning and resumes cleaning from there.

But that’s not the case with Roomba e5. It starts cleaning right from the docking station. It is not able to remember the location where it left off.
