Roomba 694 vs. i3/i3+ Specifications & Key Differences

Last updated on April 15th, 2024

The 600 series is popular for its budget-friendly models. Roomba 694 from that series is often compared with the Roomba i3+ from the i series. All these models were released in the same year. But what’s the main difference between these models? Let’s dig in and find out.

Which is better: Roomba 694 vs. i3/i3+?

Roomba i3+ is a better vacuum robot than the 694. The enhanced features of these models easily overpower the higher battery capacity of the 694. Even though i3+ uses the same cleaning technology as 694, it gives a superior performance on all surface types.

Navigation is similar in both vacuums, but the i3+ can map your home and store the maps. It even has a better dustbin capacity. It also comes with the Clean Base that self-empties the dustbin.

What does the ‘+’ indicate?

The i3 and i3+ are entirely identical to each other, with just one difference. The ‘+’ in the end indicates that the vacuum comes with an automatic dirt disposal system. It also shows the presence of the Clean Base docking station. This docking station automatically sucks out the debris from your vacuum every time it docks.

Note: You can upgrade your i3 to i3+ by purchasing the Clean Base docking station separately.

Roomba 694 vs. i3/i3+ Comparison

Let’s discuss the differences between these models in a more detailed manner.

Dustbin Capacity: Roomba 694 vs. i3/i3+

These robots have a small removable bin that holds all the debris they collect. The bin in 694 can hold 0.3 L of dust. It might seem small, but it is not. The i3+ also has a similar bin but with a higher capacity. It can hold 0.5 L. The i3+ not only has a larger bin but also comes with an automatic dirt disposal system.

Every time the i3+ docks, the debris from the bin is automatically emptied into a bag in the docking station. This dirt disposal bag can hold waste for up to 60 days. Once it’s full, you can replace it with a new one.

Having a larger dustbin capacity and a self-emptying base gives the Roomba i3+ an edge over the 694.

Do these Roomba models use the same filter?

These models use two different types of filters. The 694 uses the AeroVac filter, whereas the i3+ uses the AeroForce filter. Now, these filters are not that different from each other. They have pretty similar physical features. Both types need replacing after 4 to 6 months.

But the difference is in their working efficiency. You can say the AeroForce filter is superior to the AeroVac filter. Both filters are capable of eliminating allergens, but the AeroVac filter does it with less effectiveness.

As the Roomba i3+ has the superior AeroForce filter, we highly recommend choosing it.

Roomba 694 vs. i3/i3+ battery comparison

Now, this is where the 694 shines. It has a better battery capacity than its counterpart. With a mere 3 hours of charging, you get a runtime of 90 minutes with the 694. This is possible because of its 2,130 mAh Lithium Ion battery. The i3+ also has a Lithium Ion battery but with a lower capacity of 1,800 mAh.

Lower battery capacity also translates to a lower runtime. The i3+ barely makes 75-minute long cleaning cycles. Surprisingly, the i3+ takes the same amount of time to charge as the 694.

Since the i3+ gives a longer runtime with its higher battery capacity, it clearly is the winner in this case.

Both these vacuums use the same navigation system. They use an older version of the iAdapt system, which is the iAdapt 1.0 navigation system. If you let them both loose in the same room, you will notice that they maneuver in pretty much the same pattern. They follow straight lines until they encounter some obstacle and then resume the straight line.

Cliff sensors

They even have those cliff sensors that prevent robot vacuums from falling down the stairs. These sensors detect the change in the height of the cleaning surface and turn around if the height difference is too much. The distinction is made on the basis of mapping technology.

The 694 does not have the ability to map your home, whereas the i3+ does. It will map your home in a few runs and create a map from the data acquired. This map can be viewed on your mobile app.

The i3+’s smart mapping ability sets it apart from the 694. The maps come really handy for targeted cleaning. Hence, we recommend getting the i3+.

Cleaning Performance: Roomba 694 vs. i3/i3+

You will notice that 694 and i3+ use the same cleaning technologies. The standard 3-stage Cleaning System is followed by both models. They detect debris and do the cleaning with their Dirt Detection Technology. You will be surprised to know that despite that, there’s a significant difference in their actual cleaning performance.

The i3+ is known to pick up dirt and dust better than the 694. The same case is observed on both hard floors and carpets. We believe the reason behind this is the i3+ has 10 times more suction power than the 694. It is, therefore, able to give a better cleaning performance.

Higher suction power results in the i3+ giving a better cleaning performance than the 694. So it is clearly the better choice.

Note: The i3+ has Imprint Link Technology, which is not present in the 694. With Imprint Link, you can link your vacuum with Brava Jet mop so that they clean in sync with each other.

These are almost the exact sizes but differ in their looks. The 694 has a shiny charcoal grey finish. The i3+ has a grey-colored ring with a textured pattern on the top but is black otherwise. Just by looking at them, you can tell the two apart.

If you can’t figure out which is which by that, then we suggest you feel their weight. Because the 694 is lighter at 6.77 Pounds than the i3+, which is 7.2 Pounds.

But design is not really a factor worth considering while buying a robovac, so we won’t pick one over the other for the design.
