Roborock s7+ vs. Ecovacs Deebot T9+ – What’s the Difference?

Last updated on February 15th, 2024

If you are looking for a dual-cleaning smart robot, then the s7+ from Roborock and Deebot T9+ from Ecovacs are two great options. These offer vacuuming plus mopping modes at quite affordable prices.

But which one of the two should you buy? Both have excellent features that are hard to resist. But still, what does the choice come down to?

Which is better?: Roborock s7+ vs. Ecovacs Deebot T9+ review

The Roborock s7+ is the better smart robot because of its larger dustbin and water tank capacity. It is also good at cleaning crevices and tough to extract dust particles. The credit goes to the floating rubber main brush and 5-pronged side brush. It saves you money with its bagless, self-emptying tank.

What is the difference between Ecovacs T9 and T9+?

The only difference between Ecovacs T9 and T9+ is the self-emptying dustbin feature. The T9+ comes with a self-emptying docking station, while the T9 doesn’t. The same is the case between Roborock s7 and s7+.

Roborock s7+ vs. Ecovacs Deebot T9+ Comparison

Price

The most important thing you should know is that the prices of vacuums keep changing from time to time. You can get some pretty exciting deals on sales like Prime Day and Black Friday. So we suggest you keep checking the prices before buying.

At the time of writing this article, both models were available on their official websites. The Roborock s7+ was valued at $679.99, and the Ecovacs Deebot T9+ at $799.99.

In our opinion, the bigger price tag of the Deebot T9+ is not worth the features that it offers. You will not find any significant additional features with it. And anyway, the s7+ is the better of the two models.

Design

Taking a look at the top view of these bots, you will think they are the same. Truthfully, minor changes in dimensions and curves are evident from the top. The real difference in design is in their brushes.

Roborock s7+ main brush

Roborock s7+
Roborock s7+

The Roborock has adopted a fully rubberized main brush for this model. And it’s not just a regular rubber brush; it’s a floating rubber brush. The role of a floating rubber brush is to move slightly up and down as the curvature of the cleaning surface changes.

The biggest advantage of this brush type is less tangling of hair. You will find a few wrapped around the axles, but that is significantly lower than found in older Roborock models.

Side brush

There’s also a single side brush on the s7+. With a special 5-pronged rubber design, it ensures that the brush doesn’t scatter much debris and gets its job done.

The job of the side brush is to swipe up dust from corners and crevices. The best thing about rubber brushes is that they don’t soak water from mopping. Now, let’s understand how the Deebot is different.

Deebot T9+ main brush

Deebot T9+
Deebot T9+

It has a single main brush with dense bristles. The rubber brush just cannot provide the agitation of dust that a good old-school bristle brush can. It, of course, gets a lot of hair tangled around itself, but with regular maintenance, you shouldn’t face many problems.

Side brush

One seemingly good thing about the T9+ is it has 2 bristled side brushes instead of 1. But they do tend to scatter dirt around a lot and get a lot of hair tangled around them.

Even though they look similar at first look, they have significant design changes. The Roborock s7+’s floating rubber main brush attracts less hair and adapts nicely to different surfaces, and the 5-pronged rubber side brush doesn’t do a lot of scattering.

You might be inclined to go for the dual-side brushes of the Deebot T9+, but their disadvantages are just too much.

Dustbin and water tank

Dustbin

These smart bots have automatic dirt disposal systems, due to which they automatically empty their dustbins into the docking station. Emptying is done every time they dock. This eliminates the tension of throwing away the waste after each cleaning cycle.

The Roborock s7+ has the bigger dustbin of the two models. It can hold 0.47 L of waste. The Deebot T9+ is not far behind with its 0.42 L capacity, but it will require more frequent emptying.

One special feature about the s7+ is that it allows you to choose between bagged and bagless dustbins. If you want to save a few bucks, you can choose to use the bagless option. You don’t have to do anything just simply don’t install a dustbin bag, and the debris will start collecting in the tank itself, located on the docking station.

Water tank

Speaking about water tanks, they are needed for the mopping attachments. Here, you have no option but to fill them out manually. Some models in the market auto-refill their water tanks, but not these two. The T9+ has a comparatively very small water tank of 0.18 L capacity. The s7+ can mop for a longer time without the need to refill its 0.3 L tank.

The Roborock s7+ has a larger dustbin and water tank capacity. It also gives you the option to choose between bagged and bagless dust collection. This gives it an edge over the Deebot T9+.

LiDAR navigation of Roborock s7+
LiDAR navigation of Roborock s7+

The navigation on these models is pretty much the same, with a few minor differences. Both use the LiDAR sensor projected outwards from the top of their bodies.

For those who don’t know what a LiDAR is – It is an array of laser-based sensors that can detect objects in the surroundings, map their location, and design a path to move around the obstacles without bumping into them.

The Deebot T9+ has the upper hand here as it uses TrueDetect 2.0 technology, which is a secondary LiDAR system via the front-facing camera lenses. This helps it to detect objects below the line of sight of the primary LiDAR. That’s why T9+ doesn’t get tangled with wires and shoelaces. The same can’t be said for the s7+.

The fact that the Deebot T9+ can better avoid small obstacles but navigates similarly around large obstacles as the Roborock s7+ makes it the better choice.

How is the cleaning performance: Roborock s7+ vs. Ecovacs Deebot T9+?

Let’s understand how these two models clean our homes.

roborock s7+ cleaning a wodden floor
Roborock s7+ cleaning a wooden floor

Roborock s7+

The Roborock s7+ has a floating brush which enables it to pick up dust from crevices in hard floors.

  • It is good if you have a lot of wooden floors in your home.
  • It is suitable only for low-pile carpets not higher than 4 mm.

The reason is it has a VibraRise mopping technology, which auto-lifts the mop at a 5 mm height on detecting carpets. But if your carpet is 5 mm or more in height, nothing can stop it from getting wet.

The mopping attachment of this bot is quite good. It has a sonic vibration technology, due to which the mop creates small vibrations – around 3000 vibrations per minute. This is better than other vacuums that simply drag the mop on the floor.

Note: The mopping pad can be washed, dried, and reattached for the next cycle. This increases your manual efforts but saves a lot of bucks.

Deebot T9+

Deebot T9+ mopping the floor
Deebot T9+ mopping the floor

The vacuuming performance of the Deebot T9+ is not as good as that of the Roborock. It can pick up large debris effectively but struggles a lot with small particles. Its side brushes also tend to scatter debris a lot.

But it is better at mopping. Unfortunately, its mop doesn’t rise on detecting carpets, so it just avoids them when mopping. Now, this might sound good, but if you have a region that is surrounded by carpets on all sides, the robot gets stuck and won’t move forward.

But the mopping performance is note-worthy. The OZMO Turbo 2.0 Oscillating Mopping System on this bot makes the mop oscillate. This creates a kind of scrubbing effect on the floors. It’s perfect for adamant stains that require extra effort to remove.

Note: This model uses disposable mops, preventing you from the hassle of washing. But it is going to increase your maintenance costs.

The Roborock s7+ is better at vacuuming, while the Deebot T9+ is better at mopping. We bring it down to a personal preference as to what your primary requirement is.

Other features

There’s a unique feature that the Deebot T9+ has, but the Roborock s9+ doesn’t – an automatic air freshener. Yes, you read that right! Your T9+ can disperse air freshener into your home during its cleaning cycle.

  • You get to choose from different fragrances.
  • The fragrance capsule can be interchanged at any moment.
  • Each capsule can last up to 60 days.

Note: It is, of course, an add-on feature and has nothing to do with the actual performance of the vacuum. We can call it one of those ‘nice to have, but not necessary’ features.

Conclusion

The Roborock s7+ and Ecovacs Deebot T9+ both come highly recommended by smart vacuum users. They both offer some high-end features at comparatively cheaper prices, like self-emptying dustbins and mopping attachments.

The s7+ is better at vacuuming than the T9+. But it’s the opposite when it comes to vacuuming. It depends on the specific needs of your home. If you mop once or twice a week, then the T9+ could be a good choice. But the s7+ will meet your daily cleaning needs.
