Features of Deebot T20 Omni

Let’s take a look at the features of this vacuum.

Packaging

The packaging of the T20 Omni is designed to survive most types of shipping mishaps. The box is really huge, so you might need another hand to get in your home. The inside of the box is neatly lined with another cardboard box so that your vacuum is completely protected.

All the contents of the box are neatly wrapped in coverings so that they do not brush against each other and scratch themselves during transit. You will find a user manual and setup manual inside the box, which has simple instructions you can follow to set up and start using your robovac.

Design

Deebot T20 Omni has a shining white round body. It has a top flap that can be opened to view a top-mounted dustbin, a power button, and a Wi-Fi connectivity indicator. The top of the robot has a protruding LiDAR sensor that often gets in the middle while maneuvering tight spaces.

That is why the T20 Omni is not able to glide easily below the furniture. There’s also an oval Go/Stop button just below the sensor.

Front view

Just like any other smart robot, the front of this vacuum has a bumper. This is just a protective measure in case the obstacle detection system is not able to detect a particular obstacle. But that is rarely the case. It has three cameras on the front used for navigation and obstacle detection.

Bottom view

If you flip the T20 only upside down, you will notice two side sweeping brushes compared to the Roomba Combo j7+, which has only one side sweeping brush. In contrast, this one has a single rubber brush with spiraling blades, but Roombas usually have a dual brush system.

Apart from that, you will notice two washable and detachable mopping pads on the bottom. These mopping pads use a hook and look fastener system to attach themselves to the mopping plates.

Docking station

The docking station of the T20 Omni has a tall makeup due to the water tanks placed in it. On the underside of the docking station, there is a small button for opening the dust bag section. On the top of the docking station, you will notice a button that can start cleaning the mops. But if you press the same button for 5 seconds, it will automatically empty the tanks.

Dustbin and water tank

The Deebot T20 Omni has a top-mounted dustbin with a 0.3 L capacity. Even with the self-emptying feature, the dustbin capacity is quite small for this price. There are vacuums available at much cheaper prices, having twice the dustbin capacity as this one. Because of the self-emptying feature, it empties its contents in a large dust bag of 3 L capacity.

There is no onboard water tank on this model. It dampens itself on the docking station before setting out for mopping. The docking station has two large water tanks of 4 L capacity each. One tank holds clean water, and the other tank holds dirty water generated from washing the mop.

Automation

This is a highly automated smart robot. It has auto-lifting mop pads that lift themselves up to 9 mm on detecting carpets so that the carpets do not get dampened while it runs over them. These mopping pads also have a self-washing feature. When it docks into the docking station, the mops are washed with hot water heated to 131°F.

Note: After the washing is completed, the mops are also self-dried using hot air. But there’s a flaw in this automation – even if the robot goes out on a vacuum-only cycle, the dock washes the mops when it comes back.

How much time can the Deebot T20 Omni run for?

The Deebot T20 Omni can run for 170 to 260 minutes, depending on the mode in which it is used. It has a 5200 mAh Lithium Ion battery capacity, which takes around 6.5 hours to charge. The charging time is significantly high and can cause a disrupted cleaning cycle if you have a large home.

The following are the runtimes associated with different modes of the T20 Omni:

  • Hard Floor in Silent Mode (vacuum only) – 260 mins
  • Hard Floor in Standard Mode (vacuum only) – 190 mins
  • Hard Floor in Silent Mode (vacuum and mopping) – 220 mins
  • Hard Floor in Standard Mode (vacuum and mopping) – 170 mins

How is the navigation of the Deebot T20 Omni?

The navigation of this robot is quite advanced. It uses a LiDAR navigation system. The LiDAR uses laser-based sensors protruding from the top of the robot to map your home and detect obstacles. As this vacuum doesn’t use the vSLAM technology and completely relies on LiDAR, it maneuvers and cleans even in dark regions.

Obstacle avoidance

The TrueDetect 3D 3.0 technology also uses lasers for object detection. Ecovacs claims that it is the same technology used for advanced facial recognition. It has a millimeter level of accuracy, hence enabling it to detect even shoe laces and cords.

Mapping

The TrueMapping 2.0 technology creates a 3D map of your home in less than 5 minutes. This vacuum uses dTOF sensors in combination with LiDAR. This is the same technology used in self-driving cars. Because of them, you get 2 times more coverage and 4 times more precision than the LiDAR alone can give.

Cleaning Performance

You can use this robovac in 4 cleaning modes:

  1. Vacuuming
  2. Mopping
  3. Vacuuming + Mopping
  4. Vacuum before Mopping

So it can vacuum and mop separately as well as simultaneously. Running them simultaneously saves time as it doesn’t have to cover the same area twice. But if you have high pile carpets, you will have to do it separately.

Even though the robot raises its mop on detecting carpets, the height difference is not sufficient to prevent high-pile carpets from dampening. The Roomba Combo j7+ completely eliminates this drawback by raising the mop on top of it.

The high suction power on this vacuum allows it to clean with much efficiency. It can easily pick up all hair types with minimum tangling. But it tends to miss a few corners as it is not able to reach them. The mops vibrate while cleaning, thus creating a scrubbing effect. It’s good for taking out tricky spots.

How to operate the Deebot T20 Omni?

There are 3 ways to operate the Deebot T20 Omni.

  1. In-built voice assistant – The vacuum has an in-built voice assistant called Yiko that can take direct voice commands. You just have to be in the vacuum’s vicinity so it can hear you clearly. Yiko even responds back with replies like ‘Yes, I’m here.’
  2. Other smart assistants – You can pair your vacuum with smart assistants like Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Siri Shortcuts. They are already embedded in your home, so you can place the command from anywhere within the house. They eliminate the need to look for your mobile just to ask your vacuum to clean.
  3. Mobile app – The robot has its own mobile app, which has a bunch of features to completely customize your cleaning experience. All these features are listed in the next section. With the app, control your vacuum from anywhere in the world.

App Features

With the Ecovacs app, you will get the following features:

  • Scheduling daily and weekly cleaning cycles
  • Setting up custom cleaning controls by rooms
  • Creating virtual boundaries in your home where the bot can’t enter
  • Viewing and editing a 3D map of your home
  • Setting the wetness level for the mop to low, medium, or high
  • Setting the cleaning interval time for the mop to 5, 10, or 15 mins
  • Adjusting the suction power of the vacuuming
  • Setting the frequency for emptying the dustbin
  • Choosing the cleaning thoroughness level
  • Setting a hot air drying time to 2, 3, or 4 hours

Maintenance

You must regularly clean the sensors, wheels, brushes, and other parts to keep your Roomba in proper condition. Read the steps given below to know in detail.

Cleaning the surface

Disconnect the vacuum from the docking station before starting to clean. Wipe down the body of the vacuum with a microfiber cloth. For the hard-to-reach areas, use a soft-bristled brush.

Dustbin

Remove the top-mounted dustbin and empty its contents, if any, into your garbage bin. Use a soft-bristled brush to remove any debris that is stuck inside. If needed, wash it with soap and water.

Mopping pads

The docking station does a good job of washing the mops, but make it a habit to remove them once in a while. Rinse and wash them with warm water and mild detergent. Let them air dry before you reattach them. Replace the mopping pads periodically.

Brushes

If there are any tangled hair on the brushes, try to remove them with your hand or use scissors to cut them away. Scrub away the remaining debris with a brush. Wipe the main brush with a microfibre cloth before reattaching it.

Filter

Tap the filter gently on a laid-out paper towel to remove all the loose dirt. Rinse them under cold water until all dirt is washed off. Air-dry them completely before installing them back.

Sensors

If sensors accumulate dirt, it will significantly affect the performance of the vacuum. So you have to wipe them regularly with a clean microfibre cloth. Make sure you don’t get any liquid on them.

Wheels

Wheels accumulate debris in their axles. Use the provided cleaning tool to take out all the debris. After that, wipe the wheels with a microfibre cloth and some cleaning solution. Make sure the movement of the wheels is free and not hindered by accumulated dirt.

Pro and Cons

The following are the pros and cons of getting this product:

ProsCons
Long runtimeExpensive
Self-washing and self-drying mopDampens high pile carpets
Dual cleaning modesSometimes gets stuck
Self-emptying dustbinHigh charging time
Pros and Cons of Deebot T20 Omni

Conclusion

The Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni gives us a fully automated cleaning experience. Only the Roborock s7 MaxV Ultra is more automated than this one, with its self-refilling tank and child lock. But it is, of course, costlier. The thousand-dollar tag seems a bit steep for a mere vacuum cleaner. But it is not just that, is it?

It will also mop your floors and pick up the trickiest dirt spots. The dustbin capacity is a bit small, but the self-emptying feature kind of nullifies it. This vacuum is for you only if you are willing to cut a check that large for a few added luxurious features.
