Deebot X1 Omni vs. Roomba Combo j7+ Comparison

Let’s discuss more about the individual features of these robot vacuums.

Price Comparison

At the time of writing this article, there is a price difference of $100 between the models. The Roomba is the cheaper one at $999. But if you ask whether those extra bucks are worth spending for Deebot, then the answer is yes. The Deebot has more automated functionality than the Combo j7+, which makes the price worth every penny. It has a self-washing mop and auto-refilling tank not present in the Roomba.

The Deebot X1 Omni is a bit costlier than the Roomba Combo j7+, but since it has better functionality, it would be the preferable choice.

Which one has a better design?

The Omni X1 is bigger and heavier than the Roomba Combo j7+. It comes in two colors – Black and While. The Combo comes in a single Charcoal Grey color with a silver circle in the center. Both models are round in shape. You will notice a circular LiDAR sensor protruding from the top of the DEEBOT. While the Roomba just has a front-facing camera.

Retractable mopping arms

The Roomba’s design is quite intriguing because of its retractable arms for the mop. These arms can extend and lift the mop and place it on the top of the Roomba when they detect a carpet—all thanks to the Dry Rug Intelligence. There’s no such separate placement of the mop in the X1 OMNI. But it has two removable mops attached to the bottom.

Roomba Combo j7+ has a more elegant and modern design. Its robotic arms, sleek body, and shiny finish make the Deebot X1 Omni look dull. It even has a retractable mop that keeps your carpets dry.

Note: We usually don’t recommend products based on their design. But the Roomba’s Auto-Retract Mopping System will keep your carpets dry at any cost. This cannot be said for the X1.

Deebot X1 Omni vs. Roomba Combo j7+ control options

Both these models have the usual voice and app control options. They both have their respective mobile apps and are also compatible with devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. In addition to that, the OMNI X1 has a built-in voice assistant called YIKO. You can directly talk with your vacuum and give commands like “Clean under the sofa.” YIKO will even reply back to you with responses like “OK, starting area cleaning.”

The DEEBOT X1 OMNI has a dedicated voice assistant, YIKO, which is not available with the Roomba Combo j7+, making it more desirable.

Comparing the tank capacities

These vacuums have a tank for debris collection and a tank for water onboard. Both have dustbins of the same volume (0.4 L). It doesn’t matter that the dustbin volume is small as both have an automatic dirt disposal system. So, every time their dustbins are full, they head to the docking station. There, the waste is suctioned out of their bins into a large dirt disposal bag.

Water tank

They also have a water tank for the mop. The Roomba can hold 0.21 L of liquid. You can even add floor cleaners directly in the water tank of Combo j7+.

The DEEBOT holds very little water, around 0.08 L. But it has an auto-refilling tank, so you don’t have to worry about filling the onboard tank continuously. The X1’s docking station has two large tanks of 4 L each. One tank holds clean water, while the other holds dirty water.

It’s not really ideal to make a choice based on tank capacities since both have automatic dirt disposal systems. But the auto-refilling water tank definitely earns the DEEBOT X1 OMNI some points.

Battery Performance

Battery section of a Roomba
Battery section of a Roomba

The X1 Omni has a greater battery capacity (5,200 mAh) than the Combo j7+ (2210 mAh). This results in a significant difference in the charging time and runtime of both models.

Where the DEEBOT takes 6.5 hours to charge completely, the Roomba is charged in merely 3 hours. On a full charge, the Roomba can run for 75 minutes, but the X1 has a variable runtime ranging anywhere between 140 to 260 minutes.

The runtime of X1 OMNI depends on which mode you are using it in. The following list will give you an idea about its runtime in different modes:

  • Sweeping on hard floors in silent mode – 260 mins
  • Sweeping on hard floors in standard mode – 195 mins
  • Sweeping and mopping on hard floors in silent mode – 170 mins
  • Sweeping and mopping on hard floors in standard mode – 140 mins

The DEEBOT X1 OMNI not only has a better battery capacity but also gives a significantly higher runtime than the Roomba Combo j7+. So, unless you are bothered by the longer charging time, the DEEBOT is the ideal choice.

Which vacuum has a better filter?

The Roomba uses a traditional HEPA filter. It is excellent at eliminating allergens from your home. You will need to replace the HEPA filter every 4 to 6 months. However, the DEEBOT has an extensive filtration system that is washable. It is recommended to replace it every 2 to 3 months. It comprises a filter net, a sponge, and the actual filter element.

  • The filter net is a protective case made of plastic.
  • The role of the sponge is to filter large dust particles.
  • The filter element filters the fine particles, blocks dust, and discharges clean air into its environment.

At the time of writing this article, a HEPA filter was available for purchase at $36, but the ECOVACS filtration system was much cheaper at $10.

The DEEBOT X1 OMNI has a more extensive and cheaper filtration system than the Roomba Combo j7+, but it cannot match the efficiency of a HEPA filter. If you are prone to allergies, you should definitely look for a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

Automation

These are highly automated robot vacuums. Both have an automatic Dirt Disposal system, which allows them to readily empty their dustbins when they are full. The collected dust is stored in a large dirt disposal bag in the docking station. The Roomba also has an Auto-Retract Mopping System. It will raise its mop to the top of the vacuum every time it cleans carpets. But this system is not available for the DEEBOT. You will have to manually remove its mops if you deem it necessary.

Auto-filling tank

The DEEBOT has so much more to offer. It has an auto-filling tank, which will take water from the main tank located in the docking station. Unlike Roomba, you won’t have to fill the water manually. The X1 also has a self-washing mop. It uses water from the main tank to automatically wash its mop. The wastewater from washing is collected in a separate tank in the docking station itself.

Not only that, but it also dries its mop after washing. The device has a heating system that generates hot air for drying the mop. This helps eliminate odor from the mop and prevents the growth of bacteria caused due to dampness.

The DEEBOT X1 OMNI is better automated than the Roomba Combo j7+ with its automatic dirt disposal system, auto-filling tank, self-washing, and self-drying mop.

Navigation technology used in Roomba

The navigation capabilities of these vacuums are at the top of their brands. The Combo j7+ uses visual Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (vSLAM) technology with its front-facing camera. It is one of the first Roombas to have a front-facing camera. This has made PrecisionVision Navigation possible.

Because of PrecisionVision, it can detect small objects like charging cables, shoes, socks, pet toys, etc. iRobot guarantees that it will recognize and avoid pet poop at all costs. That’s why it gives the Pet Owner Official Promise (P.O.O.P) that if the Combo j7+ runs over pet poop, iRobot will replace it with a new one for free.

The Roomba also has an Imprint Smart Mapping technology, which learns every nook and corner of your home and builds a floorplan accordingly. This map is saved for all future cleaning cycles. You can label the rooms and then direct your Roomba to clean specific rooms.

Navigation technology used in Deebot X1 Omni

On the other hand, the X1 Omni uses the LiDAR navigation system. It uses a top-mounted laser-supported device for mapping. That, combined with the optimal TrueMapping 2.0 technology, creates excellent maps of your home. Just like Roomba, DEEBOT also saves these maps for future cleaning cycles.

One interesting feature of the X1 is the Artificial Intelligence and Visual Interpretation (AIVI) 3D technology. Its AI computing power and human recognition capabilities can identify obstacles and decide whether to avoid them or not. It has a pre-learned list of objects to avoid and is learning more. It is equipped with an astrophotography-grade RGB camera with autopilot technology that spots these objects.

The Roomba Combo j7+ just cannot compete with LiDAR technology combined with TrueMapping 2.0 technology and the AIVI 3D technology of the Deebot X1 Omni. These easily outsmart the Roomba.

Deebot X1 Omni vs. Roomba Combo j7+ cleaning performance

Roomba cleaning the floor
Roomba cleaning the floor

Both vacuums are top models from their brands, so you can expect excellent cleaning performance from both of them. They have an advanced 4-Stage Cleaning System, which will take care of all your cleaning needs. Let’s find out if one cleans better than the other.

Vacuuming

The X1 has two side brushes, whereas the Roomba has only one. This has a significant impact on the cleaning performance. It also has 5000 Pa suction power, which is almost thrice that of the Roomba.

However, practical uses have shown that the Roomba performs better on high-pile carpets than the X1 Omni. The reason could be Roomba’s Dirt Detection Technology. It identifies areas with more dust and debris and takes extra effort to clean those spots.

No doubt the higher suction power wins the Deebot X1 Omni some points, but the Roomba Coombo j7+’s Dirt Detection Technology is worth the same. So, we will call it a tie.

Mopping

Roomba combo j7+ mopping the floor

Both these vacuums have extremely different mopping styles. The Deebot has a unique Ozmo Turbo 2.0 Rotating Mopping System, which rotates the mops up to 180 times per minute. This creates a scrubbing effect on the floors.

The Combo j7+ doesn’t have any specified technology, but it applies 1.16 lbs of pressure when mopping. Both these techniques ultimately result in the removal of tough stains. They need multiple rounds to take off stains, but they get the job done.

It’s difficult to pick one over the other as the mopping styles of both robots serve the same purpose of removing tricky stains.
